During the use of terminal blocks, various faults can occur, such as poor contact. The function of the insulator is to maintain proper alignment of the contacts and to provide insulation between the contacts themselves and between the contacts and the housing.
Therefore, the insulator must possess excellent electrical, mechanical, and processability properties. With the widespread use of high-density, miniaturized terminal blocks, the effective wall thickness of the insulator is decreasing. This places more stringent requirements on the insulating materials, injection mold precision, and molding processes.
Insulation problems such as short circuits, leakage, breakdown, and low insulation resistance can occur due to several factors: excess metal, surface dust, flux contamination, moisture absorption, exudates from organic materials, adsorption of harmful gases forming ionic conductive channels with surface water films, mold growth, and aging of the insulating material.
